Tips For Taking A Greener Vacation

Posted on July 31, 2016 by Andrew

When you plan your next vacation, you may want to keep the idea of doing something better for the environment on your mind while deciding where to go and how to get there. A more green vacation can have a lot to do with where you go, what you do while you’re there, and how you get there.

Here are some tips that can help you plan a more green vacation, that you can feel good about. If you don’t start working now to save the environment, you may not have the joyous places to vacation in the future that are currently available.

Stay At A Luxurious Resort

By staying at a luxury resort you can get all of the amenities that you need without going very far. No need to drive when everything you need is right there. You will find sports to help keep you fit, pools for fun and swimming, and even shopping options.

This is a great vacation idea for anyone that has the money for a luxurious vacation. You might even want to try going on a luxury cruise, which also has everything you need. However, look into the cruise company first to find out how green they are!

Get Back To Nature

Why not spend some time in nature on your next vacation. It can help you remember exactly why you want to be more green. And there are tons of options when it comes to outdoor vacations. There is nothing more outdoor-sy than Iceland with its beautiful landscape, people can take camper van vacations there and consult an Iceland travel guide to guide them through the outdoors.

You can go camping, or you can even go hiking. Spend some time in nature, learning about the plants and trees, and what you can do to help protect wildlife. It’s a great way to have a fun, relaxing, and educational vacation.

Ride, Don’t Drive

If you really want to do something good for the environment on your vacation, ride instead of drive. Rent a bicycle, or take your bikes with you, when you get to your destination, and use those to get around. It’s a great way to work on putting less pollution into the air.

There are even places you can go on vacation where motor vehicles aren’t even allowed, like Mackinac Island in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Instead of driving, you take a ferry to the island, and then you rent bikes or take horse and carriage (or walk) to where you want to go.

Clean Up After Yourself

The most green thing that you can do on any vacation is make sure that you clean up after yourself. Don’t litter, make sure garbage ends up in a trash can, and recycle every chance you get. Even if you don’t normally recycle at home, you really should give it some practice when you are visiting other places.

Tip of the Day

If It Doesn’t Smell, Don’t Wash It

According to Real Simple, if every American made an effort to launder less — cutting out just one load of laundry a week per household — we’d save enough water to fill seven million swimming pools each year.

So if it looks clean, and it smells clean, call it clean and wear it again. Consider hanging worn clothes out on your clothesline to freshen them up between wearings
