There are thousands of ways to work towards a more green life, from using solar and wind energy to creating less waste. Of the many ways, you can also work to integrate more nature into your life. Things like trees and plants release oxygen and do many other great things for the environment.

If you don’t have a green thumb you can still give these things a shot. You never know, you may find a love for gardening you never realized you had. And, when it comes to trees and shrubs outside, they can generally take care of themselves pretty well.

Adopt Some Indoor Plants

For those of you that do, in fact, have a green thumb, you should definitely consider houseplants. There are plants that, when raised inside your home, can actually purify the air. That means you will be breathing in cleaner air, even on the days when you accidentally grab that harsh chemical for cleaning.

Even if you aren’t looking specifically for toxic air cleaning plants, having plants indoors can be a great way to brighten up your home.

Landscape Your Yard

Help purify the air outside and make the oxygen everyone breaths just a little more healthy by getting some landscaping done in your yard. Have some new fruit trees put in, or some privacy bushes. A beautiful holly bush can make an excellent natural fence in your yard.

Maybe you want to just tend to the plants already in your yard, like the beautiful shade tree that would be perfect as a cover for picnics or a private place to read in the great outdoors.

Grow Your Own Garden

Whether it’s an herb garden in your kitchen, or you till up half your yard to plant a huge garden filled with all of your favorite fruits and vegetables, gardening can be a very rewarding experience. For one, you’ll save money on groceries. Plus, you’ll be wasting less when you don’t need to bring so many shopping bags back home from the store.

Even if you don’t have the yard space, you can still do some container gardening if you have a porch.

Regrow Your Veggies

You can also create less trash by regrowing some of your fruits and vegetables from the scraps you have left behind when you prepare them for meals. It’s amazing what you can do with a little creativity and a need to be a greener person.

Tend To Some Flowers

Add a little beauty to the great outdoors by planting some flowers. Flower beds and flower gardens are wonderful, and they add curb appeal to your home. Plus, you may be surprised to know that some flowers, like roses and marigolds, have edible parts, like their pedals, that you can use in things like salads in the kitchen!

Tip of the Day

If It Doesn’t Smell, Don’t Wash It

According to Real Simple, if every American made an effort to launder less — cutting out just one load of laundry a week per household — we’d save enough water to fill seven million swimming pools each year.

So if it looks clean, and it smells clean, call it clean and wear it again. Consider hanging worn clothes out on your clothesline to freshen them up between wearings
