3 of the Most Eco-Friendly World Records

Posted on July 05, 2019 by Andrew

World records capture the public’s imagination. There is something quite magical about witnessing something that holds the world record for what it is trying to achieve.

As we move to a more environmentally sustainable world many of the records we are seeing are focused on being eco-friendly initiatives.

Here are some of the most environmentally sound world records, from the more eco-friendly city to the world’s largest jute bag.

  1. The Greenest City

Many different cities are vying for the title of being the greenest in the world. Not only is it coveted for the credit it brings it also encourages more environmentally conscious consumers to move to the city.

We find that many older cities struggle to keep up with the modern purpose built metropolises. This is the case with the current greenest city in the world, Masdar City in the UAE.

This city incorporates a driverless underground system with a preference for electric vehicles to keep its carbon emission down. The charge on plastic bags also means consumers tend to use more reusable jute bags for their shopping.

  1. World’s Largest Jute Bag

With the war on plastic raging on many are attempting to reduce their consumption of the single use product by making the switch to jute Bags.

In the small village of Bradford-on-Avon, they took the Jute craze to a new level by raising the world’s biggest jute bag.

Organised by the Cotton Bag Co, the enormous structure was hoisted off the ground by an industrial crane. The remains of the bag were then broken up and repurposed into smaller jute bags for consumers to use.

The record attempted to bring attention to the issue of too many plastic bags in our society. Jute is a sustainable material that makes great bags for the day to day. Evidently, it also makes great material if you are attempting a record for the world’s biggest jute bag!

  1. The largest solar-powered boat

A key step to developing how we get from point A to point B sustainably is to as a society make the choice to use transport powered by green energy. Solar power is great as it harnesses the power of the sun and the Turanor Planet Solar Boat launched in 2010 smashed the record as the largest solar-powered boat. It acts as a great example of how a method of transport can be truly eco-friendly.

All are great eco-friendly record attempts

All of the records shown are great examples of how a bit of ingenuity can help you achieve some truly remarkable feats. Whilst you may not have the need for the world’s biggest jute bag a normal sized one is a great way to get your shopping into your fridge sustainably.

Tip of the Day

If It Doesn’t Smell, Don’t Wash It

According to Real Simple, if every American made an effort to launder less — cutting out just one load of laundry a week per household — we’d save enough water to fill seven million swimming pools each year.

So if it looks clean, and it smells clean, call it clean and wear it again. Consider hanging worn clothes out on your clothesline to freshen them up between wearings
